2020 was a year unlike any other. Like every business, Summit faced the challenges of keeping our people safe, while making sure we met the needs of clients.
We are incredibly fortunate to have a brilliant team who kept on going, adapting the way they work and keeping focused on what they do best: ensuring our clients’ premises stay safe and operational.
It’s in a year like 2020 when our people realise how valued their work is. Following lockdown in March, the team helped keep essential services going – supermarkets, nursing homes and social housing. They also supported some hard-hit sectors through difficult times, including hotels and universities.
As summer rolled on, we helped hospitality businesses get ready to reopen, and worked to prepare student residences for their new intake.
And all the while, we worked to grow our own business. We were particularly pleased to secure a major contract with Caledonia Housing Association, to begin working with Lidl, and to expand our team with our new apprentice Craig in August.
One thing that has endured through much of the year is youth sport, and we were proud to sponsor Riverside Juniors football team for the new season, helping youngsters enjoy the social and physical benefits of exercise.
In autumn, we announced our purchase of local business Tayside Automatic Doors, which allows us to provide an even wider range of services for our clients. It’s an exciting new part of our business that we’ll be building on over the coming months.
As the year comes to a close, we are grateful that our team are all fit and well and that we have been able to keep on going in a year that has been so difficult for so many people. We look forward to 2021 with optimism, knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and hoping that this time next year our world will be a little more normal.
I want to say thank you to our colleagues at Summit and Tayside Automatic Doors for their hard work and dedication, and to our clients for keeping us busy over the last 12 months. It’s a privilege to do what we do, something we appreciate this year more than ever.
